Garnett Andrews (1798-1873) was born in Wilkes County, Georgia, on October 30, 1798, and died in Washington, Georgia, on August 14, 1873. He married Annulet Ball on April 10, 1828, and they had eight children. Andrews was educated at Washington Academy and admitted to the bar in the early 1820s. He practiced law for fifty years and served two terms as a state representative (1836-1855 and 1868-1873). He also served as judge of the northern circuit of Georgia. Garnett Andrews was a jurist, writer, politician, and Know-Nothing candidate for governor, and the father of diarist Eliza Frances Andrews. He was born on October 30, 1798, to Ann Goode and John Andrews on the family plantation near Washington, Georgia, in Wilkes County. Eliza Frances Andrews, a Ga. native, was an author and teacher. She taught at schools in Ga., Ala. Miss., and Tex. Andrews was also a botanist, lecture, and a contributor to magazines and newspapers.
